Nurse in Dallas Gets Ebola

Article Summary
The main idea of this article is that a nurse from a hospital got sick Friday night and drove herself to the emergency room of Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas. She was then placed in isolation 90 minutes later once a blood sample was sent to the state health lab confirming she had Ebola. She got it from not doing the protocols to new patients to make sure they do not have Ebola, and she did not do those protocols. How she got the disease is unknown, but she did have “extensive contact” with Duncan (The first person with Ebola).

Analysis
I feel that if she did take the precautionary protocols she would still have gotten Ebola because of the extra long time she has been seeing Duncan. Also because, apparently you can get Ebola just being there with him. The only way we know of, right now is that you can get Ebola from direct contact with bodily fluids of a sick person.

Discussion Questions
·         How do you think she got Ebola, could that change how we “see” Ebola now? (As a bigger threat or still just a minor problem) Why?
What do you think police and other people who work at the hospital should do so they don’t get Ebola, or let other civilians get it too? Why?

  1. I feel that this is her fault because she did not properly do the protocols, and I feel that if she did do them then she wouldn't of gotten Ebola and it also surprises me that she did not follow these protocols because it's like she wanted to get Ebola.

  2. I think she got Ebola by being in contact with an Ebola infested patient. Most likely happened by contact with bodily fluids. We can prevent it by sanitizing more often. We can fix this.
