Ebola In Texas?

There has been an Ebola outbreak in Texas. 100 are being watched for symptoms. All the people that came into contact with Thomas Eric Duncan over short visit before knowing he had Ebola! Thomas had been in contact with a person in Liberia, who had the virus. Then he flew home to meet with his family. Most of the people that were on the plane he took were checked if they had the Ebola virus.

I think that this is a very scary subject. The virus is not the only thing that scares me about this situation! The way that these people are being handled is crazy. Many people are under constant watch for up to as long as a month. The family of Thomas are not only under watch but they also have very little updates on how Thomas is doing. In the article it states "They are treating me like a dog".

Will the Ebola virus spread any further?
Even though nothing is for sure, the Health Departments have token close to every precaution they can at this point.

Is the Ebola deadly?
The virus itself can kill you very fast, but the problem why so many people were dying from it in Africa was because the Health Departments there are not to the same standards as in the U.S. So in the U.S. you have a very much better chance of living.

  1. Clarky,

I like how you used detail and your own personal opinions about the situation. It was interesting how you talked about Thomas and his situation as well because it added more dimension to your writing. :P

  2. I think it is unfair how Thomas Duncan is being treated, but I also think that the government should take any persuasion in order to prevent the virus from spreading. Overall one person is being treated unfairly is far better than an outbreak of Ebola in the U.S!!

  3. I think the virus could spread if they don't take matters into their own hands and actually figure out a way to prevent it.

  5. I think it is unfair that Thomas is "being treated like a dog" because it wasn't really his fault and it was kind of the doctors fault because they just sent him home with antibiotics.

  6. I think it is important to keep the virus from spreading, but it is not fair to treat Thomas poorly. There needs to be a line between these two. I hope that the virus can be kept under control. I agree that the situation is scary, but there is not much that can be done to stop the fear. We Americans need to feel safe, but must continue to keep our rights intact.

  7. I don't think that the Ebola virus will spread more because it only spreads from body fluids, but you did a great job in detail and stuff. Just be happy it's only 1 person.

    1. I disagree with this haha sorry! But im prety sure i saw that it takes a little while for you to realize your sick with Ebola, so what if you dont realize it and spread the virus on to other people? You never know, it could happen. how do you think it spread when it was still in Africa? And the people that Thomas was in contact with could have Ebola, you never know. Its always a possiblity but I'm not saying your entirely wrong!

  8. I don't think that the ebola virus will get very far without killing a couple hundred people in its way, if it does start to infect people. The virus is way too deadly and basically kills people in days, it will probably burn out within a month or two.

    1. I disagree because if the disease keeps spreading it will keep killing people. Also for it to burn out, most people would have to die.

  9. I think that if people who have been exposed to someone who has symptoms of Ebola then they should be treated rather then traveling. Because if someone is traveling who may have Ebola then they are going to spread it.

  10. I agree with how they are shutting him out from the rest of the world so it does not spread and kill hundreds of people but i disagree with how they are not giving his family updates and treating him like a dog.

  11. I think shutting people of from Thomas Duncan is good and bad. It is good because it protects the health of US but it is bad because Thomas will feel very bad and he will have no communication.

  12. I think that they should do whatever they can to keep Ebola from spreading. I think this because, in Africa the beginning they didn't do anything to keep Ebola from spreading and that's how Ebola spread so quickly in Africa

  13. I believe the people are doing the right thing. Even though Thomas is being "treated like a dog" we don't want the virus to spread. Nice job Jack!

  14. I feel like Ebola won't spread any more than it already has. Although it is a very deadly virus, The United States is not likely to let another person come into our country with a disease such as Ebola. The security will be much tighter and if anybody comes into America from an area that has Ebola they will probably do some sort of check to see if they have Ebola.
