Escaping the Hospital with an Ambulance.

In the article Police: Patient hijacks ambulance from Arizona hospital and drives home, it explains how a patient from the hospital wanted to go home. So on Sunday, the patient Michael Lopez hijacked a parked ambulance and used it as his getaway vehicle. The Goodyear police spokeswoman Lisa Kutis said that a firefighter sitting in the back jumped out safely and Michael was then pursued by Police and failed to pull over. Authorities then used GPS to located the vehicle and found Lopez at his house in the suburb of Avondale. Michael was then arrested on charges of theft of means of transportation, felony flight, and failure to yield to police and disorderly conduct. Lisa Kutis then said that Lopez felt like he was being hospitalized against his will and was booked into a Phoenix jail.

I disagree with Michael Lopez because if he just waited, he probably could have gone home sooner or later. He also hijacked an ambulance, and that reminds me of stealing and it doesn't really help anyone in any way. Instead, it just caused the authorities more work and Michael himself was sent into the Phoenix jail. I feel like Michael should have just waited.

Do you agree with Michael Lopez hijacking the ambulance?
What would have been the best action Michael should have done instead of hijacking the ambulance?

  1. Maybe he should've just gotten a taxi? Why would you hijack an ambulance? This is so confusing.

    1. He should've told them it was a emergency instead of making the situation bigger than it already was. If he really needed to leave he shouldn't have made it a crime to leave the hospital, but instead asked as if he really needed to leave. He could've handled the situation much, much, better.

  2. I think that the hospital should have let him go, you should be able to leave whenever you want to. He didn't need to make it so serious as to steal an ambulance.

  3. I agree that Michael should have just waited. I do not agree with Michael for hijacking the ambulance because, what if the ambulance was needed for a real emergency and because of Michael it wouldn't be able to get to the person. Overall I believe you did a great job!

  4. If he was in the hospital odds are that he needed to be their. I understand wanting to go home, but that probably was not the best way to handle it. Instead of going home, he now needs to go to jail. It was very counterproductive of him to steal the ambulance and get himself arrested. Now, he needs to wait longer to go home, and have a criminal record.

  5. I think that if Michael had just waited he would have, A. been fully treated and B. been able to go home. Instead he made an odd decision of hijacking an ambulance. That is very wrong for any kind of stealing and he could have made better decisions at that time.

  6. I thin it is very wrong for him to hijack the ambulance because he would have got to go home soon, and he had to wait because what if he was not in good shape.

  7. I personally disagree with hijacking the ambulance because he definitely could have come up with a less conspicuous way to escape the hospital. If I were in his shoes and I needed to escape a hospital, I probably would have just gotten my street clothes and walked out of it. Maybe he was afraid of getting Ebola? Either way it was completely unecissary to escape the hospital by stealing an ambulance.
