Grave of 43 Lost Students Found Days Later

OCTOBER
“Grave of 43 Lost Students Found Days Later”
SUMMARY:
Large grave of forty-three students found on outskirts of the Mexican town Iguala which supposedly originally went missing on the 27th of September. The students were last seen being forced into police vans during a large protest against rural teachers over ‘job discrimination’. The government offered a $75,000 reward to those who gave the location of the missing students, they are not sure how much of the students there were, but over 15 of the bodies have been retrieved.

ANALYSIS:
I think this is really horrible at how they just disappeared randomly without any source of location, and found dead days later in a pit. It makes it even worse to think at how the police did this, to show such brutality towards a protest is insane and unnecessary, counting how much deaths were caused.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
  1. How do you think the police should’ve handled the situation? (Instead of killing 43 people)

  1. Even if the protest was any kind of violent, do you still think they should’ve did what they did?

  1. How do you think the government should apologize to this catastrophe?

    2. I agree with Kamilla, the police were wrong to kill the people, they need to rethink their methods

  3. It is the job of the police to protect the people. It is not right for them to kill people. Instead of killing, the police should have broken up protest without harming anyone.

  4. I feel like that the police should not have forced the students into their vans and should have tried to diffuse the situation before forcing them into their vans. Killing the people is definitely and overreaction to their protest, every person has a right to protest and a right to live.

    1. I agree with Alex because there were plenty of ways they couldve solved the situation without murdering all those kids.

  5. I do not think that they should have killed those people, even if they were having a violent protest. I agree with Sam, and Kamilla.

  6. I don't think it's right to kill those students even if you are apart of the police department and think that you have that right. They should have handled it in a better way. I think they should have taken forces by calming down the protest.

  7. I agree with Sam the police are supposed to be the people we can trust to help not kill. The police should have approached the situation in a more calmly manner.

  8. Your blog post is great. I agree with your analysis. The police misused their authority instead of doing good for the common good. I think even if the protest was violent, they did not have to react to that extent. They could have told the higher authority and done something good about it. The government should apologize to the people, addressing them all as their citizens. They could give a whole reassuring speech, but anything is the least they could do, since those people's lives were endangered.

    1. This catastrophe could also cause some great social, mental, and physical effects. The social affects: people will grow worried about their government and talk to each other about it. The mental affects: the people will think more about what the government will do. The physical affects: the people's lives who passed away and protested.

  9. I, personally, do not care how bad the protest gets, kidnapping and police impersonation is a definite not. The children who where taken away from the protest probably had no idea what was happening at the time. Who knows what kind of things they could have gone through! How awful. Not to mention however old these children where, they should have know they the first amendment would have protected them in a court of law.

    1. I agree on your thoughts of the police impersonation. If they were real policemen, then we would've had more details about the arrests and where they were being taken to.

  10. I agree with your analysis. The fact that the children were last seen being forced into vans before their disappearance is terrible. I think Kamilla's opinion of the Mexican government taking this more seriously is completely valid

  12. The police should be there to help us not just kill, they should have approached this situation better than they did.

  13. This is so sad that this even happened. I thinks the police should of handled this situation in a way better way. Imagine how the families and friends of these students must feel

    1. All of these effects will have long-term affects towards this situation and the Mexican government. This could cause problems in the future. The Mexican government and people need to have that stability, otherwise this issue can become even more serious; more serious than it already is.

  15. I agree with you and how the government should have a better handle on this. Not only should our government, taken to the protests going on, but the Mexican government as well because the children were found on the outskirts of a Mexican town. They should look into this situation.

  16. This is a very horrible event. The police should've handled the situation better. This will effect the friends and families of the students who died in many ways. The police don't harm people they help people.

  17. I think that the police should have talked to the students and asked how they felt about the protest instead of just taking their lives away and making things even more complicated the government and the students' families.

  18. This is horrible! The police should have just put people the people in jail. I do not agree in anyway on how the police handled this. I think the government needs to come out and talk about it. To think of all the people they have left a everlasting mark on because there family members are never coming home is awful.

  19. The police definitely could have thought this out a little bit more because killing children is not something that the protesters or police could have benefited from because if the police killed the kids to quite the protest, it would probably end unsuccessfully. Instead it would have most likely enraged the protesters even more than they already were

    1. I agree with this. The police will get a bad reputation for this and the protesters will get angry :)

  20. I agree that this was very unnecessary. I think the police should not have used violence. Even if it was a violent protest. They could have just used threats to try and end the protest. The government should apologize to the families of the deceased students and they should make a law prohibiting violence against a protest.
