The end of mythology.

How did Greek Mythology end?

These were good sources because they had the best reviews.

The greek religion Greek Mythology ended in the 9th century in the Mani Peninsula area of Greece, where the last pagans (person with religious beliefs)  were converted. The religion was dying out because of the rise of the non-native cults, particularly Christianity for hundreds of years.

However, it is hard to know when the religion had died out because each city had its own stories and heroes, there wasn’t a single unified religion.

After Christianity had become the official religion, the Byzantine emperors banned the old ways, and the penalties for opposing the law became permanent. This was the beginning of the end the polytheists

The real maze and ship?

Is there any evidence that Greek mythology myths were real?

These are good sources because the site has a lot of good reliable historical facts that teachers trust and use.

According to the myth, King Minos was cursed and his stepson was born as a monster, half bull half man, the minotaur. Minos was furious and made an evil plan. He turned to his inventor Daedalus and made an evil plan: the labyrinth. A prison without prison bars and it was so vast, that even the inventor Daedalus himself would barely be able to escape. Today, there is an ancient underground quarry that has winding passages 2 miles that has no patterns or anything. Locals say that this cave is eerily similar to a monster’s lair: the minotaur.

In 1988, 2 scuba divers found an ancient vessel that is 60 feet long and 30 feet wide: the biggest ancient vessel ever found. The ship dates back to 500 B.C. within 2 centuries of the Odyssey. Researches compare to how the ship was build. The results were a perfect match, same way of how the ship was built described by homer.

Spreading the Greek love

New Research Question: How did Greek Mythology spread to so many people?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_mythology
These are reliable sources because they have the best reviews.
It started from Ancient Greece and then slowing beginning to spread through religion, wars, and art. A religion example is ancient Egypt, where each egyptian god had a corresponding greek god with similar powers. A war example is ancient Rome. When the romans conquered Greece they fancied the religion and the civilization so they adopted the same gods and myths. The reason why mythology spread so widely is because it was a big part of the civilization and lifestyle. The arts were myths, theater, religion, festivals, and even the Olympic Games, all had to do with a myth or another.

During the 18th century reaction against Greek myth spread throughout Europe, the myths provided an important source of material for artists, poets, operas and more. By the end of the 18th century Romanticism started a surge of enthusiasm for all things related to Greek, including Greek Mythology. American authors during the 19th century said that the study of the classical myths were essential to the understanding of English and American literature.

The Greek Modernization

How did Greek Mythology affect modernization?
This is a good and reliable source because it has good supportive reviews.

There are many Greek influences on our culture today. These impacts however, are not widely known in our society. Greek cultures affects our everyday life, because they created: democracy, the alphabet, libraries, the Olympics, math, science, architecture, and even lighthouses. Greeks created things that were well made before their time such as democracy. This political system started in Athens, where it started as a Monarch, then grew to the point where a small group of people had control of the country until it finally started a Democracy. The Olympic games were influenced by Greek mythology. The Olympic games occurred once every four years, and they originated in Greece. These games were held in honor of Zeus, God of all Gods. The Olympics however were not the only game held in honor of the Gods. The Pythian games were held in favor of Apollo, and the Isthiam games were held in honor of Poseidon. Today we still celebrate the Olympic Games, and many things are similar such as awarding someone olive leaf crowns and opening and closing ceremonies.

Another way Greek mythology influences our culture is the architecture. Ancient Greece came up with the idea of using pillars. Greek mythology played a role in architecture because there were many temples and other holy plays built for worshipping Gods and Goddesses. These building were designed to look beautiful, and they did. When Rome overtook Greece, it made it’s own form of Greek Architecture using the pillars on their own buildings.

The Biggest Cheater Of Them All?

How is Albert Bell a bad roll model for future baseball players?

Espn.com

Albert Bell is one of baseballs biggest cheaters because he would cork his bat and run into players to prevent outs. According to espn.go.com Albert bell is an all time cheater. He denied corking his bat, which is  process of making a bat out of lighter materiel allowing the batter to swing faster and possibly hitting the ball farther. Also, in baseball players that are running from one base to another have a designated running path which players shouldn't leave. Albert would usually leave this path while running to another base and knock over a member of the other team to try and prevent multiple outs.
Analysis:

I think that a player who would cheat so much and so constantly should be ejected from playing baseball permanently because players like Albert Bell ruin the game itself and also corrupt it. Even the he retired he should have been ejected.

Questions:
1) Do you think it is worth cheating so much?
2) Should he be respected as an MLB player?
3) Does he deserve to be in the MLB?

Does where you live affect how healthy you are?

Obesity; the condition of being very fat or overweight; corpulence.  According to worldobesity.org , obesity is an increasing problem around the world.  Children more than anyone are affected by the terrifying and deadly wave, even more than adults.  Why is this?  What factors play into how healthy you are where you live? Why is so much of the world’s youth either undernourished or obese?  All these questions really depend on the countries themselves and how much the government is involved in their citizen’s nutrition.

What places around the world have the highest obesity rates?
Today, I heard a girl in the hall talking about how “fat” she is and how she lost 5 pounds last month, even though she was very much skinny and not “fat” at all.  A school we learn about how much we are supposed to exercise and what foods we should be eating.  Because of this, many teens and kids are unfortunately concerned about obesity and what they look like.  The U.S.’s culture has definitely spread the image of looking like models and what you are supposed to look like.  Here in the U.S., we have one of the biggest epidemics of obesity around the world.  With 35.2% of girls, 33.2% of boys,  33.3% of men, and 35.8% of women are obese in the United States.  This can cause many other health related problems in the future for each individual who is obese.  Because the U.S. is a very industrialized and prosperous country, almost everyone can afford a lot of food.  But even when you have enough to eat it might not be as healthy as you think.  When you think of America what comes to mind? Mac and Cheese? Hamburger and french fries?  Chicago style hotdog? Doughnuts and Hershey chocolate bars? This all is the “norm” from fast food to restaurants.  Because we grew up on that Kraft Mac&Cheese we are more likely to serve it to our children, even though you know its not good for you.
http://www.fitnistics.com/control-obesity-kids/
What places around the world has no obesity at all?
Places around the world that do not have stable governments, or prosperous economies have the lowest rate of obesity.  Take Senegal for example.  0.1% of boys and 0.4% of girls are obese!  Because poverty levels and the economic state of the country is not great, many people are undernourished and have much less to eat.  Compared to the United States, these statistics are crazy.  The moto “one man’s trash, is another man’s treasure,” really comes into play because we have so much food we throw away, while others are starving and trying to live.

Fashion is how we establish ourselves around our peers and colleagues. Way back when Adam and Eve were around we didn’t wear any clothes. Soon after that, we wore clothing for functional purposes such as protecting our bodies from the sun and nature. Relatively soon after wearing our clothes for just function Native Americans tribes wore certain clothing for everyday work and special occasions. Some clothing was believed to have spiritual meanings and powers or the clothing was based off different cultures.  These ancient traditions were carried over into Western culture. From there,  clothing began to diversify. The style of clothing you wear are how you  illustrate what type of person you are part of. Also, clothing became a way of marking social groups. If you are part of the government you wore more formal attire. If you are a farm girl you wore casual, comfortable clothing. Clothing was a big part of the feminist movement.

The famous poster of Rosie the Riveter is a great example on how developed themselves and played a big role in their society. The poster of Rosie was created when women were operating everyday jobs in the U.S. We took a big leap into a new era where women weren’t useless housewives, they were important figures just like men! On the poster Rosie is wearing a functional blue shirt and no decorative earring. She has her hair tied back and on on the illustration it is reads,”We Can Do It”. “Rosie the Riveter is important because it diffused a whole new idea of women and their dress on a massive scale.” Women after that didn't like the “norm” and wanted change. Ever since then women have a larger idea of what fashion is normal.
