Does where you live affect how healthy you are?

Obesity; the condition of being very fat or overweight; corpulence.  According to worldobesity.org , obesity is an increasing problem around the world.  Children more than anyone are affected by the terrifying and deadly wave, even more than adults.  Why is this?  What factors play into how healthy you are where you live? Why is so much of the world’s youth either undernourished or obese?  All these questions really depend on the countries themselves and how much the government is involved in their citizen’s nutrition.

What places around the world have the highest obesity rates?
Today, I heard a girl in the hall talking about how “fat” she is and how she lost 5 pounds last month, even though she was very much skinny and not “fat” at all.  A school we learn about how much we are supposed to exercise and what foods we should be eating.  Because of this, many teens and kids are unfortunately concerned about obesity and what they look like.  The U.S.’s culture has definitely spread the image of looking like models and what you are supposed to look like.  Here in the U.S., we have one of the biggest epidemics of obesity around the world.  With 35.2% of girls, 33.2% of boys,  33.3% of men, and 35.8% of women are obese in the United States.  This can cause many other health related problems in the future for each individual who is obese.  Because the U.S. is a very industrialized and prosperous country, almost everyone can afford a lot of food.  But even when you have enough to eat it might not be as healthy as you think.  When you think of America what comes to mind? Mac and Cheese? Hamburger and french fries?  Chicago style hotdog? Doughnuts and Hershey chocolate bars? This all is the “norm” from fast food to restaurants.  Because we grew up on that Kraft Mac&Cheese we are more likely to serve it to our children, even though you know its not good for you.

What places around the world has no obesity at all?
Places around the world that do not have stable governments, or prosperous economies have the lowest rate of obesity.  Take Senegal for example.  0.1% of boys and 0.4% of girls are obese!  Because poverty levels and the economic state of the country is not great, many people are undernourished and have much less to eat.  Compared to the United States, these statistics are crazy.  The moto “one man’s trash, is another man’s treasure,” really comes into play because we have so much food we throw away, while others are starving and trying to live.
