Revamped parking meters collect change for homeless

Summary: In Pasadena, Los Angeles there is a new program for helping homeless people. They created a plan that was thought to reduce panhandling. They turned parking meters into places to collect change for the homeless. People created this, because the biggest question people have when giving money: "Is my money going to help their hunger or an addiction?" It is said that the meters have helped a lot and hopefully raising awareness. In just a little over 3 weeks only 2 meters raised $270. However there are people saying that it is a bad idea. “It’s a nice idea,” Johnson said. “But we won’t get that money.” Also, other homeless people who need things other then food. For example, a place to sleep, or health care. Other people are saying that nonprofit organizations don't always help. Like, granola bars are pointless for people without healthy teeth, as is canned food without a can opener. Other homeless people like the idea, “I hope they put a lot of them around. Put a meter on every street. I do hope it works,” Ruiz said. All in all they are experimenting different things to help homeless people and reduce panhandling.

Analysis: I think that this is a really good idea. I feel like this will end up helping a lot of homeless  people. Even though there are negatives to this idea, maybe if enough money is donated then they could work on helping homeless with other things other than hunger. I also believe that this does prevent panhandling. This prevents panhandling because, the organizations get to choose what the money is spent on and it also helps them with drug addictions.

Questions:

1. Do you think this is a good idea?

2. Would you donate money directly to a person or donate money to the meter?

3. If you were in a situation as a homeless person do you think that you would like the meters, or not?

China and US greenhouse gas agreement

http://magazines.scholastic.com/news/2014/11/A-Historic-Climate-Agreement

Summary:
Recently Earth's temperature and weather patterns have shifted. This is an issue because it is causing major ice sheets around the world to melt, which then causes sea levels to rise, resulting in coastal flooding. The agreement between China and U.S. comes as a big step in the right direction because these two countries together produce 1/3 of global greenhouse-gas emissions. President Obama agreed that the U.S. will cut out greenhouse-gas emissions by 26% by 2025. China's president, Xi, agreed to limits its emissions by 2030, also to start using cleaner types of energy. Some U.S. lawmakers are not welcoming the agreement because the U.S. has to do more than China. On the other hand many climate scientists believe the agreement is satisfying, but not completely because it is not enough to avoid the drastic weather changes.

Analysis:
I believe this agreement is the start of something better. Hopefully by U.S. and China taking these actions other countries will see that they can do it to. This agreement is something that needed to be done, because if it continues the problems will be even greater and might even become unfix-able. In my opinion this is a good thing, but it isn't good enough. Just from the U.S and China cutting back on somethings doesn't mean other countries will, so then if that happens the problem is still occurring just less.

Questions:
1) Do you think the difference in the goals for China and the U.S. are unfair?
2) Do you think this will solve the greenhouse gas emission problems?
3) Is this agreement a good thing?

Gecko Tech: Sticky Invention Lets People Scale Walls

By Nicholas Von Stein

In the article, Gecko Tech: Sticky Invention Lets People Scale Walls, scientists have created a new technology that allows a vertical movement up a surface perpendicular to the ground. This Spider-Man like invention was inspired by a gecko’s feet. Gecko’s feet have thousands of microscopic suction cups on their feet allowing them to climb up walls and even climb on the ceiling. This invention is extraordinary it could very well be the beginning of a golden age of inventing.

This article interests me  because it makes you realize just how advanced we really are. With inventions like this, it makes me wonder what will be created next. I love technology and there are so many things that we can do that I wouldn’t even think possible. Although as I read the article I questioned its usefulness but it could inspire many new inventions. Like it could be used to

What Syfy invention would you want to see?

Do you think this invention will be sold for commercial use?

What do you think the next invention will allow us to do?

No-fly zones over Disney's parks come under some flak

Disney Land's Sleeping Beauty castle
https://www.newsela.com/articles/disney-airspace/id/5951/

SUMMARY:

In the article No-fly zones over Disney's parks come under some flak”, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reminded pilots not to fly over Disney Land due to the No-Fly zones that were placed in 2003, after a “war” between Disney and aerial administrations. If planes are seen flying over the park, planes will be forced to land and then pilots will be questioned. The pilots could possibly then be put into court. Even though No-Fly zones are meant to be temporary, the ones that surround Disney Park have been their since 2003. This fly zone was kept as a law and therefore cannot end. Many say that the no-fly zones only affect businesses that promote advertisements. Over 100 of these businesses closed down after the restrictions were put up. Although these no-fly zones have been in court, no one has found any success because the people who defend Disney believe that it is for the safety of people. “They said attackers could plow planes into crowds of tourists, drop bombs on them, or spray them with chemical or biological agents. Also, Disney’s place in American's hearts and minds, they argued, deserved the protective space”. Steve Crampton, chief counsel for the American Center for Constitutional Rights, explained that Disney’s no-fly zones are becoming weaker as the years go on because no terror attacks have occurred ever since the restrictions were enforced.

ANALYSIS:
I believe that the no-fly zones are a waste. I agree with Crampton that their arguments will grow weaker as the years go on, as long as terror attacks are becoming more and more scarce. It confuses me that Disney Parks has restrictions, even though nothing bad is going on at this moment. Sure, there are still wars that we are in, I can allow that. But I feel like our country is safe right now, and it is okay for people to show advertisements, because it really isn’t fair.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
Do you agree with Disney and the no-fly zone restrictions or the FAA and cutting the zones loose?
Do you believe that the no-fly zone restrictions are a waste? Why or why not?
Do you believe that other major parks should be allowed permanent restrictions and not just Disney?

Earthquake, Better or Worse?

Summary
In “Damage Worse than thought In Japanese Earthquake” by The Miami Herald, A mountainous areas 5 kilometers (About 3 miles) from Nagano, was shaken by a 6.7 magnitude earthquake at 10 p.m. on Saturday. On Sunday morning the quake was reassessed as 6.2 magnitude. Japan’s Nuclear Regulation Authorities said they so no abnormalities at any of the three power plants. There will not be a tsunami, because it was an inland earthquake. Hakuba got the worst of the earthquake, where 43 homes were destroyed and 17 people were injured. No one was seriously hurt. Broken bones was the worst thing that happened to anyone. Citizens living near the earthquake were told to watch out for landslides. It is believed that everyone in the quake is accounted for.
http://www.miamiherald.com/news/nation-world/article4063165.html
Analysis
I think it is very upsetting that this happened, but it could have been worse. No one was killed and that is very fortunate. I think the article was misnamed, since the situation is far better than I anticipated. It is also fortunate that there is not a chance of a tsunami or any nuclear meltdowns. Despite all those people who lost their houses the situation was far less horrible than it could have been.

Questions
  1. Do you think the situation is bad?
  2. How does it compare to other earthquakes?
  3. Do you think there is mare that can be done to help?

Black Friday Camping: Yay or Nay?

Summary!
The main idea of the article, "A Black Friday Campout " is about a man named Derek De Armond camping out two weeks before "Black Friday". Black Friday is the shopping frenzy event that occurs right after Thanksgiving every year in America. People swarm and trample over each other to try and get something that's ridiculously cheap. De Armond, along with his two sons started camping two weeks before Thanksgiving in front of Best Buy, and says that it's like a "tailgate party at a football game", barbecuing every night and inviting new people inside his tent. He also says that Black Friday has become a tradition in his family, and can be a new experience for other people, even though people still prefer shopping online. Black Friday is also highly competitive, and De Armond is determined to get a $399 iPad Air 2 for his sons and a $199 LED TV to donate to a local children's hospital. He is extremely serious about people trying to go ahead of him, and is sending a strict warning to other campers this year. On the other hand, Best Buy and the other stores are committed to the safety of the customers and wants them to look forward to the outrageous holiday. BlackFriday.com is even offering an app that provides updates on the lowest prices everyday, which might come in handy for the holidays later on. De Armond is currently enjoying his BFr life, ignoring all the haters along the way, and is more than prepared for all the chaos.

Analysis!
I feel as if De Armond is risking too much because he not only has to face taunts of all the by-passers but also has to go back home everyday to take a nice warm shower, which is a huge struggle for his sons that take turns guarding the tent. Yet I also think that he has an interesting way of interacting with people by inviting them to his tent and having a barbecue every night. I hope that he can get what he wants right away and that his "camping trip" would be worth it.

http://letterstotheeditorblog.dallasnews.com/
1. Would you like to go camping for Black Friday? Why or why not?
2. Do you think that De Armond is smart and generous, or competitive and greedy?
3. Should Black Friday be considered as an "official" holiday for America? Why or why not?

SpaceShipTwo Crashes

Summary: Virgin Galactics SpaceShipTwo crashed during a test run, One pilot was killed and the other was injured. Virgin Galactic has spent big amounts of money on this project. Their idea was to have several space ships that took passengers to space and back. Fridays test was the first rocket-powered flight in nine months. The company has been suffering a lot. On Tuesday in the same week an unmanned rocket carrying supplies exploded while launching off a launch pad. There has been something weird about the crash though. Stuart Witt was around the area of the crash and he claims that he never heard an explosion of some sort. This causes people to believe that something else might have happened.

Analysis: I think this is a roadblock in the technology and the production of Virgin Galactic. Virgin Galactic needs to be able to make a rocket that is safe and efficient so people will be able to ride it. I also think this will cause a lot of confusion for other people who witnessed the crash or wanted to know how the plane crashed.

What do you think caused the crash?

Will Virgin Galactic be able to make a safe rocket?

How do you think other astrological companies will approach this?

Hijab & Feminism

As a comment to this blog post, write a well developed paragraph with specific references from both articles that addresses the following questions:

Why might some women choose to wear the hijab and others choose not to? To what extent do people treat others based on what they wear or how they look?  Should people have to consider what others will think of them when deciding what to wear?

On a comet 10 years away, Probe Philae conks out, maybe for good

Summary
This wednesday morning, a probe named the Philae landed on a comet. The journey took ten years, and was almost executed perfectly. The Philae was supposed to land on a part of the comet that got 7 hours of sunlight per day, but it landed in a part that only got 1.5 hours of sunlight per day - not enough to power the rechargeable batteries on the probe. The information that would have been transmitted back to us was very important because comets are very old, and hold information key to the creation of the universe. There is still hope; the probe is only in hibernation, and if the scientists can find a way to get light on the solar panels, the mission may be saved.

Analysis
I think that it was a huge success just getting the probe on the comet. It shows how far technology has come. Even if they are not able to get the probe running, they still got valuable information from the experiment, and showed us what we need to change to get it right next time. If I was part of the experiment I would be happy with the results because it is a huge accomplishment to get something so small to land on a comet moving so fast.

http://www.cnn.com/2014/11/14/world/comet-landing/index.html?hpt=wo_r1
Questions
Do you think the mission was a success or a failure?

How do you think they could have made the experiment run smoother?

If you were a scientist in the project would you be angry or happy with the results?

Afghan's New Leadership

                                                       Afghan's New Leadership

Afghanistan has looked for new leaders after the predecessor, Hamic Karzai's rein for 13 years.  Ashraf Ghani has been elected and has come into power with a $1 billion scandal to resolve, and a suffering economy itself to resolve.  Now the country is having more difficulty trusting their government, because President Ghani has yet to appoint his cabinet.  This is causing discomfort all around because he has overlooked his main responsibilities.  From this difficulty, new ideas have evolved, such as letting women step into power, even if it is a small role, like being in the cabinet,

I think this could be very beneficial for Afghanistan to have a new sense of direction and government.  I also think with this new government comes opportunities and struggles.  One of the biggest things would be women's rights in Afghanistan.  This could slowly evolve into something bigger, like equal rights.

How do you think the new president will impact Afghanistan?

How does this effect the whole world?

Parents furious over Florida school's surprise 'active shooter' drill

Summary
Students and teachers at Jewett Middle Academy in Winter Haven were frightened by an unannounced “active shooter drill”. Staff members of the school had no clue that the drill was taking place. During the school day on November 16, 2014, the principal of the school commanded teachers to lockdown over the intercom. Winter Haven police officers then burst into classrooms with unloaded rifles to check if students were correctly hiding. The police officers acted as if they were real intruders in order to test the true response of the school. Teachers and students were shocked and scared out of their minds. Some children texted their parents, which got parents of the children involved and they became terrified. The school told the parents about the drill after it took place. Winter Haven Police Chief Charlie Bird defended the drill, saying, “it really is to protect the children.”

Analysis
I think that this surprising, out of the blue, scary lockdown/shooting drill was a dangerous and risky move. I believe that the school and police officers should have informed the parents, staff and children before calling such a nerve-racking drill. If I were in this situation where I was surprised by an intruder with a rifle storming into my classroom, I would be horrified. I think that it is a good idea that the community is trying to prepare the schools for emergency situations, but I think they should have handled it with more precaution.
Discussion Questions
1. Do you think the school administration and police station made the right call by doing this “active shooter drill”?

2. What would you do if you were in this situation?

3. How do you think the school should approach future drills?

Religion Reflection

Morality means determining what is right and what is wrong. Compared to Islam and Christianity, morality is specifically explained in Judaism. The Ten Commandments show morality as ways you should live your life. What to do, and what not to do. “You shall not murder.” (20) “You shall not steal.” (22) “Honor your father and your mother.”(19) These are all examples of mortality. In Christianity, the Nicene Creed also demonstrates morality, but in a different way. It explains morality in ways of what we should and shouldn't believe. “We believe in the Holy Spirit.”(59) That shows what Christians believe in. Islam also has different examples of morality. The 5 Pillars, also known as the Quran, describes how Muslims should live and what they should believe in. “And proclaim that the people shall observe Hajj pilgrimage.”(112) Each theme gives examples of morality, but Judaism has the 10 Commandments, which are the rules we should live by and what we should and shouldn't do. Every theme has the view of how we should either live, think, or believe.

Religions Relflection

God has different role is different religions. Judaism is different because God is a leader, Christianity because God judges living and dead people, and Islam because God has great power. His role is different judaism, because the Torah says God is to be love and followed. This is different than the other two, because neither of the other religions mentioned love. The role of God is different in Christianity, because the creed says  “He will come to judge the living and dead.” This is different than the other two because neither of them mention God on judgement day. The role God has in Islam is because the the Quran states that God is wise and powerful. This is different because the other two do not talk about God’s wisdom or Strength. All in all God’s role is different in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

Compare & Contrast: Judaism, Christianity & Islam

Man Surfs on Whale

NOVEMBER
SUMMARY:
In Australia there was a man who was peer pressured into surfing on a dead whale carcass. After jumping onto said dead whale his friends instantly noticed the swarm of fish and tiger sharks feasting on the whale. They yelled at him to get off, claiming that he was two feet away from slipping into a ocean of sharks. Authorities say that since no part of the whale was taken off or taken with him he wouldn’t be charged. They have now closed the beach with warnings of sharks and other dangerous sea animals. His mom has claimed “He’s an idiot” and his friends said they were not impressed. However the whale surfer himself says that he won’t be doing any stunts anytime soon.

ANALYSIS:
Why? Why would you surf on a dead whale? I mean, when I look at a dead whale I would probably be grossed out or something, because it’s a dead whale. But I wouldn’t surf on it, that’s weird. The lesson here is to never admit into peer pressure, even if your friends are telling you to surf on a whale. It’s not worth it, his friend weren’t even impressed, I guess you can say he whailed out.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
Would you be impressed if someone surfed on a whale?

How would you react to the situation if you happened to find yourself standing on a whale surrounded by sharks?

47 Killed in Nigerian Bombing

In the article http://www.cnn.com/2014/11/10/world/africa/nigeria-bombing/  published by  Aminu Abubakar on November 10 47 people were killed in a bombing outside of a Nigerian school. The explosion went off a 7:50 am right before school when the students sit outside waiting for the daily speech. The bomber was dressed up as a student so he blended in causing 47 deaths and 79 wounded innocent people. It is not for sure yet who put this man to set off a very deadly explosion that was intending to harm many but there is a suspect that may have been behind this awful tragedy. The suspect is Boko Haram, he was also involved in another attack taken place last year causing 42 students dead. Police are still trying get to the bottom of this awful event,

ANALYSIS:
I was in shock and disgusted by this awful act. I do not get what good comes out of killing many innocent people its awful and imagine the parents and families who have just lost one of their loved ones. Their lives have changed forever because of some idiots actions of meaning to harm people. It is sick and so sad how I hear stories for my grandmother saying she used to leave windows and doors open when she was little at night and throughout the day. Now you can't do that we have alarms and locks. My mother has also apologized to me saying “im sorry i have brought you into such a corrupt world”. This is heartbreaking and I'm praying for these poor families and wish the best of luck to their new lives and trying to go on with business without the person lost.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

  1. How would you react if you were at the school at this time seeing people all around you die?
  2. If one of your family members was killed by this explosion how would you and your family try and live life as best you can?
  3. Why do you this Haram or who ever this was killed these innocent students and teachers?

Afghan young women

Bartered Away

Summary: In the article Bartered Away at Age 5, Now Trying to Escape To a Life She Chooses, a Afghan young women named Soheila shares her struggles at home. Soheila, at the age of 5, was bartered away by her father to a man who was about her father’s age. This practice of prearranged marriage is known as baad. Baad is where young girls are traded between families to resolves disputes. This practice is illegal but still carried out. When Soheila turned 13 she found out she would be married to a 67 year old man at the age of 16. In desperation to get out of this situation, she begged her cousin, Niaz Mohammad, to help her escape, and she did. They escaped and had a baby together. Soheila dad found her and said she can come back to the family if she kills her son and leaves Mohammad. She refuses and her father got really anger and is threatening to kill her and her son. An organization is working to protect her and help her through his all, its called Women for Afghan. As of now the family still is unhappy with Soheila and blames her for all their problems. She is also really concerned because she found out her family is going through with another baad currently.

Analysis: I think conditions in Afghanistan are horrible and are just getting worse. What they force women do is outrageous and wrong. Soheila thinks this process will just keep happening again and again and I agree.  I wish humans knew what is right from what is wrong, but we don’t. Soheila has to live the rest of her life in fear that her dad is going to find her and kill her. I wouldn’t be able to live knowing my own father could come and kill me at any moment. I feel horrible for all Afghan women in these situations.

Questions:
  1. How can the U.S help stop baad?
  2. Will the father find her and take her back to Afghanistan?
  3. Where else do you think baad occurs?

Overfishing--The Nation's Next Issue

Overfishing Poses a Threat to Our Environment and Economy

Article Summary:

In the article, it is explained that overfishing in oceans and large lakes is becoming a real issue. For example, the populations of grouper, tuna, swordfish, and sharks have taken a massive decline in the last two decades from overfishing. Fishermen are focused on catching the larger fish of the food chain, barely leaving any to help control the quickly growing aquatic environment. Many people argue that we must keep catching these fish to keep earning money, and selling the fish to restaurants worldwide is how LOTS of money is made. But eventually, there won't be any more predatory fish to catch, and will have us stuck with an even bigger issue. Since the end of the 20th century, humans have reduced the number of predatory fish populations by two thirds. This leaves barely any predatory fish to eat the smaller fish and keep them from overpopulating, which is what is currently going on. Also, the article says that by 2050, oceans could be COMPLETELY wiped out of predatory fish, leaving the food chain to suffer immensely!! Not many fishermen care to catch and eat smaller fish, as they are not very tasty and don't sell for much. However, the article states that if we don't cut down on the number of predatory fish we catch, our oceans and large bodies of water will suffer from a great overpopulation of small fish that nobody wants.

Analysis:

I think that fishermen and fishing companies need to cut down on the amount of predatory fish they are catching and selling. While it may be doing a lot of good for our economy, the number of fish will eventually run out. Many of the fish that are being caught are close to extinction, and fishermen and greedy companies don't even care. I think in order to save these populations, we need to try and find other alternative fish to catch until the populations boost up some more. Our wildlife and environment is in great danger, and overcrowding the oceans and lakes is a huge issue, while many may not even realize it.

Discussion Questions:
  1. Do you think that we should keep fishing for these predatory fish, or cut back on the amount we catch?
  2. In what ways do you think we should help resolve this overfishing issue?
  3. Do you think it is necessary that we pay attention to the environment, as well as other governmental issues?
  4. What problems do you think this could lead to in the future?

The Consequence of Overfishing

The Consequence of Overfishing

Summary: Over the past 100 years, eating fish has been a part of our daily lives. In the article, "Fishing boats are taking too many big hunting fish from the sea", it explains that fishermen usually catch the big fish that most people eat, like tuna, swordfish, and grouper. But there is one downside, all of these fish's population have decreased by more than two thirds of what it was in 1970. These fish are in deep trouble of extinction. These big fish eat smaller fish that eat smaller kinds of fish. These predator fish are needed to keep the balance of fish in the oceans and seas. Villy Christensen states that, "It has taken many decades for them [The population of the larger fish] to rebuild." That is not good for the predators of the sea because there could be many species of fish that could go extinct within a decade or so.

Analysis: I think that fisherman should catch only a small amount of these kinds of fish because enough species of animals have gone extinct already. I agree with Villy Christensen because it can take many years for species to rebuild themselves into a plentiful amount in their population and that is not good because we will still be catching fish and the population will only decrease, which leads to extinction at one point. I think that we should make laws to limit the amount of catching fish so they can rebuild their population.

Discussion Questions:
What do you think the government should do about this?
How do you think people would react if there was a limit on fish?
Why do you think that people prefer larger fish over smaller fish?

Man Invades White House

The White House Intruder

Summary

In September, soon after the first family left the white house for Camp David, a man named Omar Jose Gonzales jumped the white house fence carry a knife entering the main gates. There was no security guard and no security ever tried to stop him while running. After Gonzalez was captured, police found more than 800 rounds of ammunition in his car near the White House. Later it was revealed that when Gonzalez had been arrested by Virginia police in July 2014, he had several weapons and a White House map in his possession.

Analysis

I think that if the white house is housing the president and a man carrying a knife is able to run across the lawn and enter the white house. Especially if he came with much more heavily armed weapons just waiting in his car. Who knows what could've really happened if he actually brought all those guns.

Discussion Questions

1) Why do you think he tried to enter the white house
2) Why wasn't there any on duty guards
3) Do you think this will happen again soon, with all the school shootings going on

Man Tight Ropes Above Chicago!

SUMMARY: On November 2nd Nik Wallenda tight roped above chicago, hundreds of feet above the ground. He also was facing the brutal winds of the night. He was on a wire the size of a penny. He did a tight rope with the most incline in record and did the long and highest blindfolded tight rope. The winds he faced were up to 30 mph. He used a pole to support his balance as he faced a challenge most of us wouldn't dare to make.

ANALYSIS:
I can't believe that Nik had the nerve to do this. I would never be able to do this kind of stunt. He was not being held by anything so if he made a mistake he would fall to his death in front of a ton of people. I don't know if this should be allowed, he could have died if he made just the slightest mistake which is very frightening to think about.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

1) Do you think that this kind of stunt should be legal?

2) Should the man at least have some safety equipment?

3) Do you think that it was worth it for the potential death that could have been caused?

Summary:

In the article, "Slow and steady, Hawaiian lava flow eases it's way through a rural village", explains how Pele, the Hawaiian volcano goddess is traveling across Hawaii and destroying the land. Although it's not safe and many people want to move out, Jamila Dandini said that Pele was just slow and steady. She argues and says, "An Island On An Island." She is vowing to stay. She sees it as an opportunity for the people in Hawaii so solve their problems and come up with ways to work together and fix it. People see Pele as a living person who wants to push her way through the island to get to her sister, Namakaokahai, the sea goddess.

Analysis:

I agree with Dandini because she can stick with her gut and do what she believes is best. No one should judge her or try and stop her. It's her life and she can live it the way she wants.  This article reminded me of moments in movies where a disaster happened and everyone wants to start over, but that one person wants to stay and fight the battle. I feel that this article shows a lot of strength by Dandini and having your own beliefs and sticking to them.

Do you agree with Dandini?

What do you would do if you were in this situation in Hawaii?

SUMMARY:
On friday a burglar was caught eating cookie dough from a woman's freezer, the man had told police he thought he was at his aunt's house. Wichita police Lt. James Espinoza said the 52-year-old resident came out of her bedroom to investigate a noise about 3:30 a.m. Thursday and she found the 28-year-old suspect eating the cookie dough from her freezer.
Espinoza said the suspect, who entered the home through an unlocked back door, told officers he thought the home belonged to his aunt and he was looking for a snack. The man, whose name was not released, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary.

ANALYSIS:
I find this really weird that the man said that he thought he was in his aunts house because you’d think he would know what his aunts house looks like on both the outside and inside. It’s also weird to me that the man was doing this at 3:30 a.m. because he claims it wasn’t a burglary but why would he have gotten there at 3:30? I personally would of been really scared if I was the woman. I also only think the man should be arrested if he had stolen anything that belonged to the lady whose house he broke into.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
  1. What would you have done if this was your house?
  2. Do you think the man should be arrested? Why?
  3. What do you think the man did when he was caught?

Obama Sends Troops to Iraq
By; Jacob Haddad

Summary:

In the article, "Obama Sends 1,500 Troops to Iraq", CNN News explains that Obama is sending 1,500 troops to Iraq. He is sending 1,500 soldiers to Iraq to train Iraqi and Kursish forces to fight ISIS. This bring the total amount of troops in that area to around 2,900. In a statement, the White House says that they will ask Congress for another $5.6 billion dollars to fund for the fights against ISIS. They also said that the troops that were sent in that area will not have a combat role, and they will operate from bases outside of Baghdad and Erbil. The statement said, "The President took these decisions at the request of the Iraqi Government and upon the recommendation Secretary Hagel and his military commanders based upon the assessed needs of the Iraqi Security Forces."

Analysis:

I agree with the actions that Obama took towards this decision. Although he could have done his approach a different way. It was a good action because first of all, he took an action on this situation. Second of all, he did not send troops to go and directly fight ISIS. Third of all, he made an agreement with another country, Iraq, against ISIS, which is a bigger step into handling this ISIS situation.

Discussion Questions:

1. Do you agree with the actions that Obama took towards this situation, and why did you agree or disagree?
2. Do you think that some of the countries around that area, such as Iraq, should take more action themselves?
3. What did you think the people against ISIS should do next about this situation?
