Summary:

In the article, "Slow and steady, Hawaiian lava flow eases it's way through a rural village", explains how Pele, the Hawaiian volcano goddess is traveling across Hawaii and destroying the land. Although it's not safe and many people want to move out, Jamila Dandini said that Pele was just slow and steady. She argues and says, "An Island On An Island." She is vowing to stay. She sees it as an opportunity for the people in Hawaii so solve their problems and come up with ways to work together and fix it. People see Pele as a living person who wants to push her way through the island to get to her sister, Namakaokahai, the sea goddess.

Analysis:

I agree with Dandini because she can stick with her gut and do what she believes is best. No one should judge her or try and stop her. It's her life and she can live it the way she wants.  This article reminded me of moments in movies where a disaster happened and everyone wants to start over, but that one person wants to stay and fight the battle. I feel that this article shows a lot of strength by Dandini and having your own beliefs and sticking to them.

Do you agree with Dandini?

What do you would do if you were in this situation in Hawaii?

What is the best way to deal with this crisis?

  1. I agree with Dandini, but I think that the people should try and escape the volcano as soon as possible, because although pele is slow and steady, it's still very deadly. It's impossible to stop a volcano and I would pack my luggage and move to another place asap.
