Obama Sends Troops to Iraq
By; Jacob Haddad

Summary:

In the article, "Obama Sends 1,500 Troops to Iraq", CNN News explains that Obama is sending 1,500 troops to Iraq. He is sending 1,500 soldiers to Iraq to train Iraqi and Kursish forces to fight ISIS. This bring the total amount of troops in that area to around 2,900. In a statement, the White House says that they will ask Congress for another $5.6 billion dollars to fund for the fights against ISIS. They also said that the troops that were sent in that area will not have a combat role, and they will operate from bases outside of Baghdad and Erbil. The statement said, "The President took these decisions at the request of the Iraqi Government and upon the recommendation Secretary Hagel and his military commanders based upon the assessed needs of the Iraqi Security Forces."

Analysis:

I agree with the actions that Obama took towards this decision. Although he could have done his approach a different way. It was a good action because first of all, he took an action on this situation. Second of all, he did not send troops to go and directly fight ISIS. Third of all, he made an agreement with another country, Iraq, against ISIS, which is a bigger step into handling this ISIS situation.

Discussion Questions:

1. Do you agree with the actions that Obama took towards this situation, and why did you agree or disagree?
2. Do you think that some of the countries around that area, such as Iraq, should take more action themselves?
3. What did you think the people against ISIS should do next about this situation?
