Disney Land's Sleeping Beauty castle https://www.newsela.com/articles/disney-airspace/id/5951/ |
SUMMARY:
In the article “No-fly zones over Disney's parks come under some flak”, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reminded pilots not to fly over Disney Land due to the No-Fly zones that were placed in 2003, after a “war” between Disney and aerial administrations. If planes are seen flying over the park, planes will be forced to land and then pilots will be questioned. The pilots could possibly then be put into court. Even though No-Fly zones are meant to be temporary, the ones that surround Disney Park have been their since 2003. This fly zone was kept as a law and therefore cannot end. Many say that the no-fly zones only affect businesses that promote advertisements. Over 100 of these businesses closed down after the restrictions were put up. Although these no-fly zones have been in court, no one has found any success because the people who defend Disney believe that it is for the safety of people. “They said attackers could plow planes into crowds of tourists, drop bombs on them, or spray them with chemical or biological agents. Also, Disney’s place in American's hearts and minds, they argued, deserved the protective space”. Steve Crampton, chief counsel for the American Center for Constitutional Rights, explained that Disney’s no-fly zones are becoming weaker as the years go on because no terror attacks have occurred ever since the restrictions were enforced.
ANALYSIS:
I believe that the no-fly zones are a waste. I agree with Crampton that their arguments will grow weaker as the years go on, as long as terror attacks are becoming more and more scarce. It confuses me that Disney Parks has restrictions, even though nothing bad is going on at this moment. Sure, there are still wars that we are in, I can allow that. But I feel like our country is safe right now, and it is okay for people to show advertisements, because it really isn’t fair.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
Do you agree with Disney and the no-fly zone restrictions or the FAA and cutting the zones loose?
Do you believe that the no-fly zone restrictions are a waste? Why or why not?
Do you believe that other major parks should be allowed permanent restrictions and not just Disney?

I think that the no-fly zone restriction around Disney is good. I think that the people who defend Disney is correct, because people in airplanes could throw a bomb at the crowds of people, or it could crash into the tourists.
ReplyDeleteI do agree with the no-fly zone restrictions. I think they are a smart idea because many people go to Disney, making it a good spot for a terorist attack. I also believe other parks should make these restrictions because it could pose a threat to the people at the parks.
ReplyDeleteI think no-fly zones are a good idea and I agree with Crampton because there will still be terrorist attacks and Disney needs to be safe and protected. I think they are a waste because nothing bad is really happening right now and if there was the no-fly zones i guess would still help, but that's a hassle for the pilots and also passengers. I think Disney is most important because a ot of people go there and especially families with kids.
ReplyDeleteI do agree with the no-fly zone because if there were to be a problem with terrorism many people would die because Disney is greatly populated.
ReplyDeleteI think it is a very good thing to have a no fly-zone because it protects the people inside the park even more. I t is not a waste because if a plane where to crash there, it would be catastrophic because of the concentration of people in one area. Other major parks should enforce this too because it is such a high risk and protecting people's lives is the most important job the government has.
ReplyDeleteI agree with disney to put up the no-fly zone boundaries since it would be a shame if people flew a plane over disney just to attack the tourists and the amusement park itself. The no-fly restrictions are definitely not a waste when it comes to safety.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with the no-fly-zons over Disney, because they are unnecessary. Why would a terrorist bomb disney when there are so many better places. 9/11 was an example. Places like tall towers, the Pentagon, or the White House would be much better places to attack. Also, if Disney was given no-fly-zone rules, then why aren't other parks and populated areas granted them too. If someone really wanted to bomb Disney they would go ahead and do it No-Fly zone rules or not.
