  2. The Palestinians should have the right to their land because they had the land the longest and they have set their place for home. An extract from the Jewish state, published in 1896 states that Palestine is an “ever-memorable historic home” for the Palestinians. [Doc. B] The author identifies as an Austrian Jewish journalist who originally supported the taking of Palestine. So this person had both views of this controversy, but she may be biased because she changed what she originally thought. This supports my reasoning because of saying that Palestine is a honest homeland for the Palestinians, it has a history, and you can’t just come and take it back which was yours thousands of years ago. From the Lemon Tree, published in 2004, says that they made this their home, you can’t just raid it and claim it as your own. [Doc. C] They made those houses, the road, it’s their progress which shouldn’t be interrupted by people. The author, Sandy Telon wrote an excerpt from a Palestine Bashir who went to visit his family in Palestine only to come back to a Jewish family. Of course this could’ve been exaggerated since someone coming home expecting their family to find someone else who took their land, can take a toll of someones emotions, so basically, this excerpt was probably written by someone who didn’t exactly like the Jews. This supports my topic by saying that they worked for this land, they made it their own, and it was gone days later. So the Palestinians should have this land because they engraved their history into it, and the Jews could’ve made a more peaceful solution rather than killing for something that’s not theirs.

  3. The Jews should have rights over Israel/Palestine because they needed a safe place of their own, and they had nowhere else to go, whereas Arabs had several other arab-ruling countries. After the Holocaust, the Jewish community was in need of a place in which they could claim as their own. The UN chose Israel to be their new homeland, and the Arabs unleashed their fury, claiming it was their land and that the Jews were invading it. However, the Jews should be granted the land because the Arabs have other countries where there are large amounts of other arabs as well. The Jews had no where to call their own and where they could live in peace. “Palestine is our ever-memorable historic home” (Document B). Fairly enough, Palestine originally was the home of the arabs, but that does not mean they need all of the land. The arab culture says that you should always help those in need, and care for them as your own. Going off of this belief, the Arabs should have just helped out the homeless Jews and given at least some of their land to them. Document F shows a map of the countries that the Arabs and Jews own. The arabs have the whole Sinai Peninsula all to themselves, even with their own self-ruled Palestinian government, and they also had the West Bank. It would be beneficial if the Palestinians/Arabs gave the land to the Jews and then worked together with them. They could establish trades and work together as nations to form a better bond. it would benefit both groups if the land was given to the Jews, but both the Arabs and Jews could still live there together. The Jews are in need of a place for their own, and agreements can be arranged if both countries would come to a compromise and realize they are doing more damage by fighting, whereas they could be establishing peace.

  4. The Jews should have the right to Palestine and Israel because God bestowed the land upon the Jews and because the Jews acquired almost all of Palestine and Israel before the Arabs did. In the Bible on Genesis 17: 3-8 God says to Abram “The whole land of Canaan, I will give you as an everlasting possession.”[Doc A]. The authors purpose for writing this document is to inform people what God gave to Abram and this makes the document more reliable because his purpose is to just inform people. This helps prove that Jews were promised the land before the Arabs. Therefore the Jews should have control over Palestine. According to the map, the Jews had control over all of Israel and Palestine from 1947-1982 before the Arabs [Doc F]. Since the map came from a US textbook and the US was not in the conflict this makes the document more reliable. Therefore this shows that the Jews had this land before the Arabs and the land cannot be taken away from them.

  5. Palestinians should have the majority of Palestine because they were there first and because they were not being as violent as the Israelis. The Palestinians were in Palestine first. An excerpt from Lemon Tree by Sandy Tolan mentioned that, “We left them in the remains of our fathers and ancestors.” This means that the Palestinians left their own land as well as their ancestors, meaning that they were there first and that they were there for an incredible amount of time. (Doc E) Israelis invaded the Palestinians’ land and stole it even though they were there first. It is only fair if one group of people is in their own land first and some other group tries to invade it saying it is theirs now, that the original group gets to keep their land. One should be skeptical when reading this because the author was a Palestinian, they could have been exaggerating or lying to make it seem like they were doing the right thing. Another excerpt from Lemon Tree by Sandy Tolan stated that, “We were exiled by force of arms.” This is one reason why Palestinians should have their own land, the Israelis kicked the Palestinians out by force. (Doc E) Palestinians were trying to deal with the conflict peacefully, but the Israelis were using force. One should be cautious when reading this because the author is a Palestinian and they could have been overreacting to make the conflict seem to be the Israelis’ fault.

  6. Although Israelis believe that God granted them the Palestinian land and were helped by Britain/UN to gain that specific land, the Arabs should be granted the majority of Palestine because it was their land to start with and they shouldn’t be forced out of a homeland they claimed first. The "British White Paper" explains how Arabs are not being paid attention to and that Palestine should not be made into a Jewish State because the Arab population shouldn’t be forced out of their homeland (Doc D). Since the article was published in a British newspaper, it proves that not all Europeans believed that the majority of Palestine should have been made into a Jewish State. Although most Britains wanted Israel to be placed in Palestine, one must infer that not all Britains could have the same thoughts and many could believe that Palestinians would be affected poorly from cutting away most of their homeland. According to Bashir, a Palestinian who revisited his home which is now occupied by a Jewish Family in 1948, he was forced out of his home and he and his family had to live without shelter (Doc E). The fact that Bashir had to go through the process of being forced to live without a home proves that Israel affected the population of Arabs that lived in homes. Although many Palestinians could be exaggerating their poverty to gain sympathy from other countries, looking back at a Palestinian map, Israel occupied more than 50% of Palestine, and that includes taking over 50% of land where Arabs lived at one point.

  7. Israelis should have control over the majority of Israel/Palestine because the UN guaranteed them a homeland and because God is watching over them and promised to give them a home. This letter was sent to Lord Rothschild as the future Balfour Declaration and the letter says that The Jewish people should have a homeland and the most convenient place was in current day Israel (Doc C). This document is more reliable because this letter was published in The Times of London so it was an official writing in history. The British government promised to give Jews a homeland and they should follow through with what they proposed. In an extract from the Bible, Genesis 17:3-8 it states that God will always follow and support the Jewish people and will protect them and be their God.(Doc A). This excerpt is interpreted by me from the Bible so it is a good source to look back to. It says that God will always be taking care of the Jewish people and will make sure they have the homeland they have always been promised. After WWII Jews had no place to go so a Jewish state was established in the Middle East and Jews deserve to stay there. Israel/Palestine should be controlled by the Israelis because they were promised a Jewish homeland from the UN and from God.

  8. In my opinion, the Israelis should control the majority of Palestine because despite the Palestinians being there in recent histroy, the Israeli were there 3,000 years ago, meaning they have an older, deeper connection with the land. According to the British White Paper,”... Palestine should be made the subjects of a Jewish state…” meaning that the land of Palestine should be given to the Israeli people as an entirely new state that they can consider their home country (Document D). This article was written by the British, so it should be fairly reliable because they are a third party with no tie to the land in question. Since the document is, for the most part, reliable, the land should be given to the Israelis because an independent power believes so. In the book of Genesis in the Bible, God says, “The whole land of Canaan, where you are now alien, I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you” (document A). This excerpt is reliable since it is taken from a book that over a billion people believe to be true fact. God saying that the land should belong to Abraham and his descendants proves that the land should be the Israelis because a being that billions of people believe says it should.

  9. The the Arabs should control the majority of Palestine/Israel because Jews were cruel and enjoyed their status. “We were exiled by force of arms”(Doc E, line 61). The fact that they took matters out this way is disgusting. This document shows that the author is against Jews. Since the author is not Jewish it makes us cautious because he maybe be exaggerating to make the Jews look worse. By the author saying this, it shows how the life of many people were disturbed by the Jews. Another reason why the Arabs should have more power is, “Rights and political status enjoyed by Jews in any other country”(Doc C, line 40). This means instead of doing things for the countries sake they will do it for their status sake. The author of this document is a non-jew making it more reliable because he isn’t speaking for his own religion. This quote shows that if power if given to the Jews they will enjoy it more than focusing on what needs to be fixed to make the country better. In the end I believe that the Arabs should control the majority of Palestine/ Israel because the Jews would hurt hurt people while trying to gain power and would let the power get to them.

  10. The Jews should have rights over Israel and Palestine because they have a historical right to the the land in the Torah, and they will not do anything harmful to the Palestinian Arabs. In the Jewish State by Theodore Herzl an Australian Jew he says that they were promised the land by God in the Torah (Doc B). This means Jews should have the land, because all people should have the right to return to their fatherlands. Herzl may be biased because he was Jewish and would have been persuading others to agree to the construction of a Jewish state. James Balfour, the British Foreign Secretary, in the Balfour Declaration said that people who were not Jewish would not lose any civil or religious rights(Doc C). Since the Jews will not negatively affect the Arab people, the Arabs should accept these term because they will not be harmed in any way. James Balfour was probably not biased, because he was not fighting over the right of the land.

  11. The Jews should have their rights over Israel and Palestine because they not only have suffered from world war two, but as a minority group in the middle east they should also gets more freedom in the Middle East. In the bible, genesis 17:3-8, it states that god will give the land to the Jews and will give the future generations all of the possession in the land too(Doc A).The text is from the Jewish bible, and other countries should respect the religion and not wage war on Israel because not every religion is the “supreme” and not every religion has the right way of doing
something. Many wars today are because of the different religions that people believe in and that shouldn’t be necessary because someone else’s religion wouldn’t really interfere with yours. The point of view is definitely from someone who is Jewish, which is not so reliable because the person strongly believes in their god and that might make him against the Muslims. This proves that even though the document was from the bible, many people still think that it’s not true since there are many religions in the Middle East that disagree with Judaism. In the extract from the Lemon Tree, the people were exiled by force of arms and left as witnesses and history, and left them hoping to return(Doc E). The point of view is from a person who used to live in Palestine, and he would despise the Jews because they forced him out of the area, but there is still a chance that he may have exaggerated while writing the document, which makes it less reliable. I think that the Jews should still take control of Palestine but not exile any of the Palestinian Muslims because if they want to make peace with others than they should not use violence to prevent wars from happening.

  12. The Israel/Palestine land should be owned by the Israelis because God promised Abraham the land and the Jewish suffered for eighteen centuries in hope of possessing the area of land. The Bible states that the entire land of Canaan will be in Jewish possession (Doc A). The author’s identity as the Jewish religious God affects how we interpret the document because not all people believe in their God and his commandments, and the information could be proven false. This shows that the land of Israel was designated as the Jews’ land long ago. According to the book The Jewish State, Palestine is the Jews’ “ever-memorable historic home” (Doc B). The Jews would regulate finances of Turkey, form a portion of a rampart of Europe against Asia, etc. Since the document was written by a Jewish journalist, one must approch it with caution because the author may be persuasive and readers must be able to deceifer factual information from opinionated/religious information. Therefore, this demonstrates that the land of Palestine should belong to the Jews because of historical and economical reasons.

  13. The battle between the two sides, Israel and Arabs, over who should control Israel can only be compromised by Great Britain taking control.A letter was sent to Lord Rothschild, a Jewish leader, from Arthur Balfour, the British Foreign Secretary. The fact that the letter was sent from Great Britain is enough to know that Britain had the prerogative over who got the land of Israel (Doc C). Arthur Balfour created what is known as the Balfour Declaration which basically stated that nothing can be done that shows prejudice against non-Jewish communities and their rights in Palestine. This makes the article more reliable because Britain showed sympathy for both sides. They gave the Arabs land, but allowed Jews to live their safely. In the British paper, White Paper, it stated that the King did not intend that Palestine should be a Jewish state. This means that although Britain wanted both sides to feel equal, one side would always feel they got the bad end of the deal. Great Britain should control the Palestinian territory because they have the right to give it to which ever side deserves it, but no matter what side they give it to, they will be prejudice against the opposing side.

  15. The Jews have had the land for the a long time and they were promised the land. They Arabs can’t come and take the land that is theirs. They had the land and had many religious sites in it as well. The Jews are going to treat the land well and give others profit from it. They are going to treat all the Christian sites with great respect and even help to preserve them as well. If they are granted the land they can give profit to Turkey they will help to repay for what they will be very grateful for. “palestine is our ever-memorable historic home” (Doc B) This quote shows that the land was sacred to Palestine and that it was their land physically and Spiritually. “The very name of Palestine would attract our people with a force of marvelous potency” (Doc B) Another quote from the document, this one shows that they have a connection to the area and that it is their real home. Jews would treat Palestine correctly and I believe that Jews have the right to the land!

  16. The Jews should have rights to the land of Israel because they were promised the land by God, and because Jews have been discriminated against and they need a home to call their own. “The whole land of Canaan where you are now an alien, I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you…” (Document A). This passage states how the Jews were promised the land by God. Abraham was given the land, and he spread it to his followers (Jews). Since many religions believe in God, the Muslims should respect this scripture from the Bible. Because it is from the Bible, there is a very good chance this scripture is unbiased, it was based off primary sources who were divine. People above embellishing or exaggerating. If the Bible may be favoring one religion over another, Muslims have no scripture giving them rights to the holy land. Jews have faced years of discrimination in other countries, and many people think it’s time for them to have a homeland of their own. “This guard of honor would be the great symbol of the solution of the Jewish question after eighteen centuries of Jewish suffering.” (Document B) This document states how Jews have been suffering for a long time, and they need a place where they can be free of that. Muslims don’t understand how it is being a Jew, if they could see how hard it is being discriminated against all over the world, they might understand why the Jews need Israel as a homeland. They don’t realize how perfect of an answer Israel is for the “Jewish Question”. This article was written by Theodore Herzl, an Austrian Jewish Journalist. Herzl is of the Jewish religion, so he must be more believing in Judaism than Islam, which may lead him to embellish the facts in his Document. Either way, Jews deserve the rights to the holy land because it was given to them by God, and because it is the solution to the Jewish Question.

  20. Palestinian Arabs should control the divided state of Palestine/Israel because they where living there first, and where exhaled under unfair circumstances. Even though the majority of people in Palestine/Israel are Jewish, Palestinian Arabs should claim the land. “…that Palestine should be converted into a jewish state against the will of the Arab population of the country.” (Document D) This shows how Palestinian Arbs have no say in how the Israeli and Palestinian divide was created. The divide was decided by the Balfour Declaration, as explained by the “British White Paper”, on May 17, 1939. This shows how someone else besides the country itself, Palestine, made the decision of dividing and inviting the Jews to live on their land. The next quote shows how people where treated, and supports the claim on how the Arabs should control the land. “We were exhaled by force of arms. We were exhaled on foot. We were exhaled to take earth as our bed.”(Document E) This is a quote from a book by the journalist Sanay Tolan. This document was created to show people how Arabs, in Palestine, where forced out of their homes and life styles, to make room for fleeing Jews. These two pieces of evidence show how unwilling and unfair it was for the Palestinian Arbs, to move out of their own land. Because Document D was written by an english author, you can assume a more neutral response, than Document E, that was written by and actual Arab from Palestine. This is because the Arabs had been living there first and where exhaled from their own land, which creates stronger and more exaggerated emotions toward the topic. Because a British law decided it was okay for the jewish people to live in Palestine, doesn’t mean it was okay with the people who where living on the land before. All in all, Arbs should control the Palestinian/Israeli land.

  21. World Cultures-9- Adam Jaber

Arabs should be controlling all of Palestine because the land was originally the Palestinians land, and no one has the right to forcefully evict someone from their own homes when they didn't even do anything wrong. The only reason why there is an Israel today is because of zionists. Since zionists wanted a country for Jews that made one and it was in Palestinian land. Since it was in Palestinian land, in this quote it shows how Palestinians felt about it. “We left them as witnesses and history. We left them, hoping to return”(Doc E). The authors purpose for writing this document was to show that Palestinians were sad for leaving their homeland. A Palestinian is visiting what was his families home, but is now a Jewish families house to show how Jews forcefully entered Palestine. “We were exiled by force of arms. We were exiled on foot. We were exiled to take the Earth as our bed” (Doc E). Also in Doc F, there is a map of Israel covering up the majority of Palestine. Based off the United Nations original agreement Jews should not have been entitled that much land. Even though the author is a Palestinian arab and might have biased opinions,he isn't biased because this is an actual experience the author went through. These quotes show that Jews are too power hungry. Every race has their own country where it originally came from. For Jews, Palestine isn't their original land, so they shouldn't have the right to just invade any country they want. Its like as if Jews chose the U.S as their new land. Not many Americans would agree yet most Americans agree if Jews take Palestine because its not their country going under occupation.

  22. Jewish people should have the right to Palestine as their land because the land has been theirs ever since God promised the land to Abraham when he made a covenant with him . As for Palestinians they moved into that land long after this covenant had been made which is why “Palestine should be converted into a Jewish state”(Doc D). The authors identify as being British doesn't affect how we view this document because he was probably not Jewish or Arab so he wasn't biased. Arabs do not deserve the right to this land because they have not been through the holocaust and lost everything like the Jew have. The authors purpose for writing this document was to show why the Jews deserve the right to this land. Palestine is already referred to as Israel and home to Jews and Israelis and it is already seen as “Palestine, of a national home for the Jewish people” (Doc C). Jewish people are not known for killing and being violent like Arabs are which is why this is rightfully their land. The author of Doc C is also British so this article is not biased because he is not Jewish or Arab. Therefore according to these two authors and millions of people all over the world, Palestine “The Jewish State” (Doc B) should be home to Jews because they have fought for it and have been through so much for it to be called their home. This is their home because they are together and free so that nothing bad can ever happen to them again.

  23. The Palestinians deserve a majority of the land because the Jews left the land first and then the Palestinians came and started living there. It isn’t really that fair that the Palestinians have to be forcefully kicked out of their houses. The Bashir was visiting his family’s home, but it was currently being lived in by a Jewish family. That means that the Jews came and kicked Sandy’s family out of their house (Doc E). It isn’t the Jews fault that they need a place to stay after the Holocaust, but it isn’t fair the the Palestinians that live there, has to be kicked out of their homes forcefully.”We were exiled by force of arms,” (Doc E). This proves that Palestinians were kicked out of their homes forcefully.

  24. Even though the Israelis were promised the area of Palestine from Abraham, the Arabs have had control over it for very long time, however neither one of them should have control of the land. Theodore Herzl wrote a book called The Jewish State. Jews had the idea that they should remain a neutral state and continue to have contact with all of Europe, and that staying in contact would guarantee existence for their homeland (Document B). The author’s purpose for this document was to show their people how they could be “guaranteed” Palestine. This affects the interpretation because this person could have a biased belief about Jews. However the author is very knowledgeable about what has happened to the Jews. This proves how much the support from Britain, and other European countries was so important. When Palestinians left they thought they left all of their things behind as a history, and that they could only have to return (Document E). The purpose of this document was to inform people how his home was taken and how he was forced to leave. One must be skeptical when analyzing this data because it was written by a man who was driven out of his homeland and has many reasons to be angry about it. Bashir, the author, was a man who wanted to be in Palestine just as bad as the Jews did. This is also supports my thesis because while Britain made a deal with Jews, Britain promised Palestinians freedom after the war. To conclude, Palestinians and Jews won’t ever come to an agreement, because both will always was more if not all of Palestine, and European countries have not helped their issues, and have caused more conflict.

The British government promised to give Jews a homeland and they should follow through with what they proposed. In an extract from the Bible, Genesis 17:3-8 it states that God will always follow and support the Jewish people and will protect them and be their God.(Doc A). This excerpt is interpreted by me from the Bible so it is a good source to look back to because even though it was made a long time ago millions of Christians look to it everyday.

  26. Arabs should have rights over Israel/Palestine because it is their homeland and that's where their independence is protected. This excerpt is from a Palestinian, Bashir, Who was visiting his family’s home and is living in by a Jewish Family. “We were exiled but we left our souls, our hopes and our childhood in Palestine.”(Doc E) They were taken from their homeland. That is the only place they know. “We left them as witnesses and history. We left them, hoping to return.”(Doc E) They left their fathers and ancestors hoping to soon see them again one day. They have witnessed the beauty of independence that Jews still seek today. This document is more reliable than Doc C because that document only talks about non-Jewish communities and other rights Palestine should have. This evidence from Document E, proves that the Arabs want back the land they they once had and left behind. They had so many special things there and they had lost it and the Jews don’t have enough good reason that it should belong to them besides certain rights. They had to leave their whole life behind and now they want to regain it and live in peace. We know the author’s tone is to catch the readers soft side and let them think about the experience Arabs had and how they should be able to get back the rights they should've had before. Arabs should have the rights over Israel/ Palestine. not the Jews.

  27. I think that the both the Israeli Jews and the Palestinian Arabs should have the majority rights too the Israel/ Palestine area in the Middle East. First of all, The Bible states that the entire land of Canaan will be granted towards the Jewish people's possession (Doc A). Although, the Jews have never lived in that area; they have been moving around. Meanwhile, the Palestinian Arabs have came and settled in the Israeli/ Palestinian land area. Second of all, in "The Lemon Tree", the author, who is a Palestinian, talks about how the Palestinians have been living there for a while, and now, the Israelis are coming into their land and trying to take it for them (Doc E). This shows how the Palestinians where living there before, for a while. Third of all, Abraham made a covenant with God; who they believe have made the Jews a homeland and that is what the Jews believe as a part of their religion (Doc A). Therefore, I think that both the Israeli Jews and the Palestinian Arabs should have an equal amount of the Israeli/ Palestinian land area.

  28. The Arabs should get control of Israel/Palestine because they were living there first when the British took control of it and gave it to the U.N. who helped to give it to the Israelis. A letter, to Lord Rothschild, by the British foreign secretary Arthur James Balfour. States the Balfour Declaration where the British gives their power of Palestine to the U.N. to give to the Israelis to live there, kick out the Palestinians (Doc C). The authors identity as British foreign secretary helps us figure out that this letter is more reliable because those plans were taken seriously and actions happened to get Israel from Palestine. The fact that the authors identity as a British secretary can lead one to conclude that he wanted to take this declaration seriously because they gave the power the U.N., they could have kept it but they gave it away. According to the map, Palestinians were living there until the U.N. made Israel from Palestine with the Partition plan, then the Israelis acquired some more land during the War of Independence a year later (Doc F). This document is more reliable because it came from a history textbook that is factual, and it stated what happened and when it happened, in order of events they happened and how they came to be Israel. The fact that this document came from textbook which gives factual information instead of a Pakistani textbook that might have a one-sided information, one may conclude that this is how Israel came to be and how Palestine disappeared.

  29. The Arabs should have control over Israel because it was their homeland before they were kicked out by the U.N. An Arab author mourning writes about how Arabs were forced to leave Palestine; leaving all their possessions, history, and dreams behind (doc E). The author states "We left our joys and sorrows. We left them in every corner, and on every grain of sand in Palestine". This proves that the Arabs should have the land because they were kicked out against their will and because they have connection with the land. Although this document contains facts that are true, it cannot be fully trusted because it is written by an Arab who might be writing to get his home back. Another source written by a European says "... that the Arab population of Palestine should be made the subjects of a Jewish state against their will" (doc D). This shows that the Israelis took over without the approval of the Arabs. This document can be trusted because it is a British newspaper speaking against Britain. It may be argued that the Israelis were originally kicked out over 3000 years ago, but countless laws and morals have been changed in 3000 years. That doesn't make it OK, but the Arabs that were living there when the Jews took over are just distant descendants of the Arabs that took over the original Israel. Overall the Arabs should have control over Israel that they have lived there over 3000 years to a time when conquering other nations has become an unjust thing.
