Does Illegal Immigration Hurt Our Economy?

How would you react if someone that isn't from your country took your job?

I have decided to research more about the effects of illegal immigration. Illegal immigration affects a lot of areas but it affects the economy the most. Many people come to this country for a new life and to start a new life you need to get some money. That money usually comes from a job and that is why the US does not like illegal immigrants taking our jobs. All the information in this blog post is from the article Do Illegal Immigrants Actually Hurt The US Economy? This article was published by the New York Times. The New York Times is an award winning newspaper that is very popular.

Q: How do American businesses feel about this?

A: There are some businesses who do not hire illegal workers at all but many business need more money so they need workers to keep the business going. Many business owners tell illegal immigrants that they need a special skill or they need to work very hard. If they don't do that they will not be able to have a job. You may have thought that this issue hurts the business more than the worker but it hurts the worker more.

Q: What are some other effects that hurt the business and the worker?

A: Illegal immigrants earn lower wages than the average American Citizen. In the article it states "Labor economists have concluded that undocumented workers have lowered the wages of U.S. adults without a high-school diploma — 25 million of them — by anywhere between 0.4 to 7.4 percent." Also many business can be charged with a fine if they have an undocumented worker.

Q: In conclusion does this issue benefit or hurt our economy?

A: According to the article, it says that economists agree that illegal immigrants benefit our economy. As baby boomers retire the illegal immigrants will alleviate their retirement. Undocumented worker contribute $15 billion a year to Social Security.

After reading this article I learned to accept illegal immigrants. I used to think these people were ruining our country but they are actually benefiting it. That is why I think we shouldn't make laws regarding illegal immigration.

Future Research: How do illegal immigrants live? Does the government restrict them from some things?
