Q #1: What is Americas opinion on illegal immigration?
A: There are two different sides on illegal immigration. There are Americans who support illegal immigration and there are American who worry that illegal immigration affects American culture.
- 70% of Americans believe undocumented immigrants threaten traditional US beliefs and customs.
- 63% of people online say illegal immigrants post a burden on the economy.
- Illegal Immigrants use Obamacare which people think is bad because too many illegal immigrants are using it.
- Only 17 percent thought more legal immigrants should be allowed to come to the United States. Thirty-eight percent said the number should stay the same.
Q #2: What has the government done about this?
A: The government has been in a big debate. They have not take any action yet to the issue.
- Congress is failing to agree on broad immigration forms. Obama could act alone in the next few weeks to give work permits to up to 5 million undocumented immigrants and delay some deportations, according to media reports.
- In New Hampshire there is a heated immigration debate. Republican Senate candidate Scott Brown last week launched a TV ad attacking Democratic Senator Jeanne Shaheen for "pro-amnesty policies" on immigration which he says she shares with Obama.
- Beyond New Hampshire, immigration has come up as a contentious issue in the Colorado and Arkansas Senate races and the Arizona governor's election.
A: There is no planned action right now. Obama is working on his own. It is his decision but since there are a lot of problems and debates, he has not decided yet.
- Since it is Obamas decision, what he does can affect the USA's opinions. Congress is trying to work out a decision but they are not at it yet so there is not going to be any action taken right now.
After reading this article, I believe the government needs to make a decision on the issue or else we'll have even more problems with illegal immigration. Congress and the President need to pass laws that enforce the border.
FUTURE RESEARCH: I would like to find more arguments on the other side of the issue, meaning, arguments for immigration.
