Disease sweeping all of Africa

I believe that geography is destiny. The two themes of geography that help explain it is location and interactions of humans with the environment. Location is destiny because where you live can determined the food, resources, and virus that are available or that you might come into contact with. Another issue that could come up is if you live in a poor country the country might not be able to provide help in disastrous times. “The New York Times reported that the World Health Organization's response to the crisis had been "hobbled" by years of budget cuts.”(Ebola Experts Discuss Possible Cures, Vaccines) This shows how Africa could only respond in little ways because the country doesn’t have a lot of money. Placement of the countries could also be an issue because if it isn’t contained in Africa it could spread to other countries, especially surrounding countries.

France’s foreign ministry announced that it would help aid Africa.(Ebola Experts Discuss Possible Cures, Vaccines)This shows that the conversations between people is helping to stop Ebola. I believe that by people talking to other people, people are becoming more aware of the crisis and as a result of that, many people have contributed money to the testing for Ebola treatment. The United States has contributed generous amounts of money to help put an end to Ebola, I believe they have because they are thinking, what if we were in a situation like this? Sense Africa is a more poor country and because of their placement in the world it makes life much harder for the people who live there. In my opinion those are the two main themes of geography that support geography is destiny.

  1. I like the fact that you talked about location and how that can heavily affect how the virus can spread, kill, and easier to contracts or harder to contracts. How long until it reaches the US and starts infecting people?
