Africa's Killer Disease

The geographic themes of Region and Movement prove that geography is destiny in West African countries because when you live in regions that suffer from poverty, your lifespan may be less than others from different regions, and unless you can get help from other people, your destiny will still be the same in the end.

Region

The Toronto Star states that region does prove that geography is destiny since the Ebola outbreak in West Africa has already killed about more than 1,900 people. If you were a person born in the West African countries, it would be almost impossible to escape the Ebola virus, since it had already spread across your country, and caused many deaths. In the newspaper article, it says that a special assistant of the president said that Ebola isn't just an African disease, it’s a virus that is a treat to all of humanity. This means that the virus can also affect the whole world, not just Africa. But still, region proves that geography is destiny because the virus has not gotten so far to other places besides the West African countries, and people are already starting to prevent the virus from getting to other places.

Movement
According to the African News Service, movement can also prove that geography is destiny because the virus was spread slower and the people were cured faster only when the doctors and assistants had brought medical goods and water to patients in the hospitals and health centers. It was also mentioned that some of the West African countries were informed by countries from different “regions’ that they needed to respond to the Ebola outbreak faster so that less people would die from the killer disease. Later on, more goods were shipped to Africa so that the doctors and nurses there could cure the disease faster than just by isolating the patients.

  1. I agree mostly with what you are saying in your paragraph. I liked how you talked about how geography can determine what can happen to you in your life and how you live. It made me think about how lucky we are to be born in America. What do you think other countries would do if the Ebola starts to spread to other countries?

    1. I hope that the other countries can not only provide Africa with their basic needs, but they can also teach students more about Ebola and how to prevent it from spreading.
