Life As An Illegal Immigrant

Imagine walking miles in the hot desert to come to America....

I have talked a lot about the anti-immigration side Now I am going to talk about the pro-immigration position. Many people don't know how illegal immigrants feel.

Being an illegal immigrant is a very long, tough, and stressful journey. This information comes from the article My Life as An Undocumented Immigrant. This article was published by the New York Times. The New York Times is an award winning newspaper that is very popular.

Q: Why do people come to America illegally?

A: Many people come to America to seek a better life. They want better jobs and better wages. Besides America is the land of opportunities. Many people don't have Visas or green cards and can't afford them which means they can't come to America. This is why they come illegally.

Q: What are some challenges when people first come to the US?

A: The first challenge is the language. Many people suffer with this. You need to learn English to be able to go to school so that will make them not go to school. In the article the author states "When my name is in English, it will validate my presence here". Another challenge is hiding your identity. Many illegal immigrants don't trust the people they are closest to because they fear that they will get caught.

Q: How do illegal immigrant become US Citizens?

A: Many illegal immigrants start out with an unrestricted social security number. They need to get money to be able to get a real social security number that will free them of their green card status. Also another way to become a certified citizen is to marry an American person. The article also claims that you can take citizenship tests to become a citizen,

After reading this article I realized that illegal immigrants are sneaking into our country and it is becoming a problem. But I think they should stay because they don't mean no harm. They just want to have a better life. After this I am going to research more about illegal immigrants and their view on this issue. I also want to see if there has been some sort of event or riot.

Future Research: How do different groups like businesses, farmers, etc feel about immigration? Do immigrants contribute to the economy or pay taxes?
