In this article I read Why use Technology?, by Marcelo Gleiser, it talks about how technology has evolved and explains a simple reasoning of how much technology we use in our everyday life. I chose the best paragraphs to analyze so you can get the most out of it as I did.
Technology in general; and information technology in particular, are growing and changing people’s lives dramatically all over the world. There are both advantages and perils to high-speed global communication. On the one hand, most if not all of us on this planet are being networked together through satellite communication capabilities.
This shows that technology is changing how we live in good ways and in bad ways. But one thing is for sure, technology and evolution of technology is changing the ways we communicate. We can now communicate much easier and faster compared to decades ago, most of the world is connected through some sort of network, and these networks are growing very fast.
Today there seems to be a strange paradox of cooperation and competitiveness among companies and countries. Because of high-speed information technology, companies can cooperate more easily within their own divisions and subsidiaries and even with their competitors.
This talks about how there is a mix of cooperation and competitiveness in today’s economy. Many companies want to become the most successful and biggest in the world, with technology companies can now advertise almost everywhere. They can get their message across through many sorts of ways to make it much faster to grow as a company now. Companies now have sections and divisions to help advertise to their specific areas.
It is estimated that 60% of all jobs in America today require technology skills. Without technology training it will be impossible for our youth to obtain these jobs and be successful. It is important that our students begin early to learn these needed skills. In the elementary schools there are many ways for the students to be taught about technology. Group projects can be based around the computer.
The author is saying that almost every job now requires a simple understanding of a computer or machinery. Decades ago we had much more complex ways to do things and now as years have gone past we have found much more convenient ways to do things. Kids growing up should learn a understanding of these things so they can be ready for when they grow up. And at this speed, it is very much possible that computers and other technology are going to be much more used.
